Ethical Investment
We hold more power than we may realise. Power to bring positive change.

I often speak with people about the health of our planet and our society. It seems the subject is on the minds of a growing number today. Well, little wonder when we follow the destruction of our planet via daily news.
One thing that perplexes me. The majority of people I speak with about global conditions, are defeatists. They simply refuse to entertain the idea that change is possible under the present system.
In fact, if we truly wish to make a difference, there is an easy means by which we can change the world.
Think Ethical Investment. Think Superannuation.
Ethical Investment is a means by which we can direct our compulsory Superannuation contributions, towards ethical organisations.
Whilst I feel horrified to think that any Superfund invests in the Arms sector, I am sure it presently delivers a return beyond your awareness. Making money from killing people is not what such organisations promote, but when we consider the actual business model, we quickly see the truth. The more soldier that are killed, the more ammunition and weapons are being ordered to replenish military inventory.
Now look at the Mining Sector.
New technology is bringing opportunity. Electric equipment is beginning to replace fossil fuel powered machinery. Environmental consideration is growing amongst some of the larger Miners.
To approach Ethical Investment as a strategy to cleanse and restore our planet, we must be willing to help strengthen the Ethical Investment Funds and Fund Managers.
As in the mining sector, cowboys can be found in any market.
To commit to changing your Superannuation strategy and follow a strict ethical investment strategy is a great start.
Your next step is to actually find a Fund Manager that truly fits your prerogative. Historical comparison on Investment returns will not match the returns of Funds that invest in Arms or Fossil fuels.
Our expectations of a best possible return are flawed.
The best possible return is one that is adding to the restoration of our planet and our social system.
Applying our Super towards helping our planet and future generations, is a commitment to life. As the sector grows and matures, by our increasing support of the Ethical Investment sector, returns are likely to improve …… even drastically if we truly get behind this concept.
The Way this works.
Supply and demand govern the global Stock Exchanges.
If we can achieve an increase in the global awareness of transparent ethical investment options, we change the supply and demand balance in favour of ethical organisations.
Imagine two companies that are listed on a stock exchange. Both produce fast moving consumer goods.
Company A is driven by profit and enjoys record results year on year, given our growing population. It is loved by its shareholders for its return on investment. It can achieve this return, by exploiting its current plant’s life span to its maximum.
Company B on the other hand offers its employees a state of the art environment, running the latest and most environmentally friendly organisation. It is focused on “Sustainability” instead of profit.
Shareholders don’t often hear about this company – unless they are with an Ethical Investment Fund.
You see, company B is paying down massive loans for their sustainable infrastructure. Company B is carrying this cost because they understand their obligation to nature and society. They carry this cost on our behalf.
Company A will not clean up its act, unless we insist on our Superfund to avoid investing in organisations that cause harm to its workers and our planet.
Forget the short term profits, when the actual system punishes companies for cleaning up their act.
Superfunds have massive financial powers. Powers given to them by you and me. This gives us the power and responsibility to choose. The world is slowly waking up to this important fact – a fact HTS aims to amplify in the interest of Sustainability.
Ethical Investment today, should account for the majority of all global investment if we wish to protect our planet and our species. Sustainability becomes far more affordable if we can reward organisations with our investment if they take the greener road.
The Last Generation have a point, but they do not have to be the Last Generation.
